First, My Own Smoking Testimony

First let me fill you in on my own smoking history. I started smoking at around age 15 or 16. My cousin got me started by asking me to get some smokes from my mother's purse...regretably, I took some Lucky Strikes from Mom's purse. Smoking was a sin for me from the very start... I know it says nowhere in the Scriptures that smoking is a sin...that is just my personal view for myself, not others. I sincerely believe God does not want us to smoke cigarettes (tobacco that is).

I smoked all during my lifetime, ( I am turning 63 years old November 27) from a teenager, through my US Navy years, and continued on smoking until very recently...oh, I still smoke, just not tobacco.

Later on I began a journey that was long and lonesome. I started to try to quit smoking... I went to a Psychologist who specialized in hypnosis for smokers and weight control... it helped but didn't work for me. Next, a few years later, I joined a few groups put on by local hospitals. They helped, but didn't work either. Several years later, in 1997, I needed emergency open heart surgery... after recovering, I went right back to smoking. 6-8 weeks later I was told I needed a bypass surgery. My abdominal aorta plus the main arteries supplying the legs were replaced with teflon arteries... another 6-8 weeks and I needed yet another bypass surgery. This time, they replaced the main artery in my right leg with, you guessed it, teflon. More recently, I have had stints, at least two inserted in my heart fed vessels...

Now you would think with all these problems, I would be able to quit those nasty, debilitating cigarettes. Nope! I continued to smoke... I was prescribed a medicine to help me quit called Chantix. Now this time I was able to quit! For a couple months anyway...back again... I lost 2 sisters, 2 aunts, and a cousin within a very short time. My nerves got the best of me and I started up again, smoking...

A month or so ago, a close friend of mine told me of a new technology. It is known as a "electronic cigarette". I was given the internet address to the manufacturer's website... almost immediately I was excited by what I saw and read. I printed out the details and the University Doctors reports and took them to my Cardiologist on my next visit to him.

He appeared to really be interested in this new "cigarette", as it does no harm to the heart or lungs. It contains NO tobacco, nor any of the over 4,000 dangerous chemicals found in tobacco. Further more there is NO second hand smoke to offend others, which means you can use this device nearly anywhere!

The Cost: Even though the initial cost was more than I had at the time, I was forced to ask myself what was the cost to my heart and lungs? And, what was I paying for my tobacco fix? I had to wait a couple weeks to save the cost of the kit. When I recieved the kit, i was just so imressed. Immediately I recognized this was it! This was finally a real answer to my prayers. I mean really!
